Waylon to return to Eurovision for The Netherlands!

It’s been an action packed week for Eurovision fans with plenty of Eurovision 2018 news, including the announcements of participants as well as the reveal of the official theme and logo. This week we’ve heard news from Finland and Azerbaijan, and now it’s The Netherlands turn to announce their act! Each year since Anouk’s Eurovision appearance in 2013, the rumour mill goes a little crazy over who will represent the once unsuccessful and now very successful Eurovision nation.

Now the official announcement has been made, and it’s a returning artist! Dutch broadcaster AVROTROS has announced that Waylon will be representing The Netherlands once again, although this time as a soloist. He previously participated in 2014 as part of The Common Linnets who finished in 2^nd place, which was the best result that The Netherlands have seen since 1975.

Waylon first got his big break on the show Holland’s Got Talent back in 2008 and was the first Dutchman to be signed by the Motown label. His first single titled Wicked Way was released the year following as a preview for his debut album Wicked Ways which was released in August of 2009. The single reached the top 10 in the Dutch Top 40 charts, and in the April of 2010, he won his first major music award, the 3FM Award for Best Newcomer. His second album was released in 2011 and was titled After All, and he won another 3FM award in 2012 as Best Male Singer.

Many Eurovision fans would recognise Waylon from his musical partnership with Ilse DeLange who as a duo formed The Common Linnets. Both artists had known each other from the country music circuit in The Netherlands, and the result of their partnership was the song Calm After the Storm, which came second at Eurovision 2014. Waylon left The Common Linnets not long after their Eurovision performance in order to pursue his solo music career, however Ilse DeLange continued with new band members.

After his Eurovision experience, Waylon released his third studio album titled Heaven After Midnight which was recorded in the US. It was a success for Waylon, as it reached number one in the Dutch iTunes charts upon release. Last year, he released his fourth studio album titled Seeds.

The song Waylon will sing at Eurovision 2018 is still yet to be released, and we would predict that we won’t be hearing it for quite a few months. When there’s more news available, we will be sure to update you! For now, listen to some of Waylon’s music down below:
